Developer Interview: Ashley Marie

Developer Interview: Ashley Marie

We wanted our fans to have a chance to get to know the team at Blue Isle Studios a little better so we’ve done a series of interviews with the developers to talk about their roles at our studio.

Below is an interview with the newest member to join the Blue Isle Studios team, Ashley Marie, who is the Community Manager at Blue Isle Studios.

What do you do at Blue Isle Studios? As the Community Manager, I offer support to our fans and manage our various social media pages: Blue Isle Facebook page, Slender: The Arrival Facebook page, and our Blue Isle Studios Twitter page. I work on information releases, contests, and updating the website. I also do voice work for some future content.

What is the best part about working for Blue Isle Studios? The best part about working for Blue Isle is the people. I get to work with an insanely talented and passionate group of developers. I’m incredibly proud of what Blue Isle has accomplished and am thrilled with the opportunity to work with people that I not only respect, but admire. I also get the chance to speak with excited fans that love what we have developed. It’s a pretty sweet gig!

How did you break into the video game industry? Do you have any advice for people looking for a career in the video game industry? Coming from an Education background, with some experience in marketing promotions, I applied for a Recruiter position at BioWare. I thought it was a shot in the dark as my background wasn’t typical for this type of position. After several interviews, I was offered the job. I was responsible for industry events, university relations, and candidate experience.

My advice for anyone hoping to get into the video game industry would be to apply for any position you are interested in, even if you are afraid you might be under-qualified. There’s always the chance a recruiter out there might see something in your resume that makes you unique. If you have the opportunity to get a position in QA, jump on it! I think it gives individuals a better understanding to what it means to work in the industry and allows you to build relationships and make connections with other developers. The last, big piece of advice I have is get on LinkedIn. As a Recruiter, that is one of our biggest tools we use to find candidates for positions.

What video game are you currently playing? I have been hooked on League of Legends for about 3 years now. I have always been a fan of PVP type games as I’m quite competitive and don’t get the same thrill from defeating AI as I do from real opponents.

What horror movie has kept you up at night? When I was younger, Ernest Scared Stupid terrified me and Jurassic Park gave me nightmares for years! I think currently, the movie that scares me the most is The Ring. Naomi Watts has a really fantastic scream and the way the little girl crawls in stiff, jagged movements gives me the heebie-jeebies.

What is your favorite dinosaur? I think pterodactyls are pretty awesome. I’ve always been really fascinated and frightened of birds of prey, eagles and hawks especially, so a pterosaur with a wingspan of up to 35 feet would be quite the sight.
